My friend seems to think that anorexia is genetic and just because someone in her family has it, she will get it.

It’s funny how completely wrong she is.

It took every ounce of my being to explain to her that no, anorexia is not some sort of genetic or contagious disease. That to be an anorexic, you have to consider yourself fat. That you have to be able to look in the mirror and see fat where there is nothing left but bone. That you feel completely worthless and like one potato chip will make a ten pound difference on your figure.

Oh and she just found out for the first time tonight that I was, and still somewhat am, an anorexic.
